Living in a warzone exposes children to traumatic experiences that leave deep psychological scars. Gaza’s children are frequently exposed to bombings, shootings, and the loss of loved ones, leading to widespread mental health issues. Studies have shown that a large percentage of children in Gaza suffer from symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, and behavioral problems. For many, the sound of explosions or the sight of destroyed buildings triggers intense fear and panic, making it nearly impossible to lead normal lives.
Unfortunately, mental health services in Gaza are virtually non-existent. Most families are unaware of the importance of psychological support, and even if they are, there are very few professionals trained to provide trauma care. As a result, children’s emotional wounds are left untreated, which can lead to long-term behavioral problems, difficulty in school, and challenges in forming healthy relationships. Without early intervention, this trauma can affect their entire lives, perpetuating the cycle of suffering.
Hands4Relief’s Mental Health and Trauma Support program will offer comprehensive emotional and psychological care for children affected by the conflict. Our services will include:
We will also create Safe Spaces where children can engage in recreational activities, connect with peers, and feel a sense of normalcy, even in the midst of chaos.
Over the next few years, we aim to become a leading provider of mental health support for children in Gaza, offering healing and emotional resilience to thousands of children and their families. By addressing trauma early, we hope to break the cycle of emotional harm and help children regain hope for their futures.
